Health Warnings
On Meetings
Have a look at the air
vents where you hold your meetings and see if there are blackened
surrounds which will give you an idea of the quality of air
being sucked from the room or into your lungs, is the message
from Death by Meetings author Ron Smith.
Ron Smith says the health aspects
of the two million meetings which take place each day in Australia
are often overlooked.
The fact that some people are
spending up to twenty plus hours a week in meetings the health
aspects, ranging from air quality to the type of food snacks
offered, should receive an audit in all work places.
“Instead of a plate
of the obligatory Tim Tams and coffee, what about orange juice,
water and fresh fruit?”
Mr Smith says with many buildings
having sealed environments the quality of fresh air, especially
where meetings are cramped or have participants with the flu,
coughing and spluttering is a key concern.
“Apart from the
physical conditions of the room the meeting can be a place
of tension, conflict and personal despair which creates increased
risk for people with high blood pressure, kidney or heart
problems being triggered by stressful meeting events,“
Mr Smith added.
